Your move, step by step
Your internet when moving from the US to Hungary: what to arrange and when
Before you leave the US
Many US internet plans run month to month, so you can simply cancel with an end date that matches your move. If you signed a term agreement, check whether an early termination fee applies. Return any rented modem, router or TV box before you leave, or you may be charged for the equipment.
Once you know your new address in Hungary, enter it in the availability check and place your order from home. That way your internet is planned before the moving truck leaves.
When you arrive in Hungary
Fiber is installed within 2–3 working days; someone needs to be at the address during the appointment. With 5G home internet, the pre-configured router is waiting at your new address: plug it in and you are online. You do not need a Hungarian address card or a Hungarian phone number to order, so you are not waiting for your residence permit or registration to be processed.
What about your US phone number?
Your bank and other services may send verification codes to your US number, so think about keeping it before you cancel your plan. Check your carrier’s international options, as roaming in Europe on a US plan can be expensive. With unlimited home internet and WiFi at home, you rely far less on mobile data.
