Fiber Internet in Hungary: 2000 Mbps; Excessive or Essential?

You just moved to Hungary. Maybe it’s for remote work, maybe school, or maybe just for a better and quieter life. Regardless of the reason, one of the first things that you will want to get sorted out is good internet. Not just OK internet but fast, reliable internet, especially now when your whole life can occur online. Video calls, online banking, Netflix, uploading large files, working in the cloud, they all require a reliable connection.

But how fast is fast enough? One great thing about Hungary, is fiber internet is readily available and quite affordable (compared to many other countries). You will see packages like Fiber 300, Fiber 1000 and even Fiber 2000. 300, 1000 or 2000 Mbps speeds. But let’s be real, do you really need 2000 Mbps?

That is a question that we receive regularly at Internet In Hungary. And the answer is… it depends. Before we get into it, let’s look at what these numbers actually mean. Mbps is megabits per second. Your connection speed. So, 300 Mbps is already quite fast, you can stream in 4k, download a large file in a few minutes and make calls without a problem. For 1 or 2 people in your house, this is more than enough.

1000 Mbps, the perfect maximum speed for larger households?

Let’s not kid ourselves, 1000 Mbps, also known as internet speed of 1 Gbps, is another level altogether what a lot of people still dream of across Western Europe. In Hungary, it’s here, sooner than you probably think. You could order 1 Gbps internet connection the week you moved in! Every single file download finishes before you even blink! Cloud backups flow smoothly with seamless bandwidth, and managing huge files is even possible without hyperventilating.

For larger households or power users, it’s perfect.

2000 Mbps, a number larger than you need or perfect?

And, then there is 2000 Mbps! You actually have to feel a little bit of pity for any house hat connects with Fiber of applicable connection speeds. Any speeds like rocket speed, you can’t even turn on any speeds that are the faster than come to a decision what to do with it. If you’re scratching your head trying to figure out why or when to use a speed that high it’s actually okay, because most people are too. Honestly, the very “normal use cases” of looking at Speeds of 1000 and higher speeds do not exist, nor showing many real alternatives from looking at a speed like 1000  and 2000 Mbs operations already.

But, if you are a serious gamer, or you daily upload large files for work (video files for things like producing, or IT backup files), or you live with four or more people that all need extra online functionality at a time then it is just wow! Also gives you future spinning with this too as everything is going to be more cloud based, more connected, more EVERYTHING. With fiber, and use 2000, you got that covered!

Telekom’s Network

At Internet In Hungary, we are excited to be using Telekom’s strong fiber network, meaning we deliver true fiber to the home, which is the best type. No gimmicks like cable that says how fast they are but slows when your neighbors are online. We have what you see is what you get connectivity. And we even speak english too. We have lived through those frustrations of figuring out contracts in Hungarian when you just moved here and everything is in a language you have not quite yet mastered. So, we let you do your thing, you do not have to worry about lots of stuff. You tell us what you need, and we make it happen. Simple.

So is Fiber 2000 too much?

Maybe. But maybe not. It depends on you as a user. If you are a casual user, 300 or 1000 Mbps would do the job perfectly. But if you are a remote worker who doesn’t want to deal with any stress, or you just like to have the best and not worry about internet again, then 2000 is the right place for you. It is peace of mind and is it really worth worrying about the few extra dollars a month? The price difference isn’t that significant after all. Hungary makes fast internet accessible!

Upload speed

Another variable, upload speed. With most fiber packages, your upload is also very fast. This ensures smooth video calls, fast file uploads, and if you’re sharing media or hosting a server, it actually works! This is a massive consideration for designers, developers, and online educators (those working from home). Uploads are many times the reconciliation point in other parts of the world. Here in Hungary, we don’t have that issue.

So to wrap this up, the question is not really do I need 2000 Mbps, but more do I want it to be stress-free, just works all the time internet? If your answer to that is yes, then Fiber 2000 is the best choice for you. If your answer is no, then not to worry, Fiber 1000 or even fiber 300 are great options too. At Internet In Hungary we make it so you don’t have to worry about it. We won’t pressure you, we won’t hard sell you, and we won’t mess with your mind. Just the pure excellent internet you need.
