Internet in Budapest: frequently asked questions
Good chance you will find the answer on this page, or by contacting the Internet in Hungary customer service.
Can I get fiber internet in my Budapest apartment?
In many buildings, yes. Whether you live in one of the central districts of Budapest or further out, enter your address in the availability check to see whether fiber is available at your apartment and which speeds you can choose. If your building is not connected yet, 5G home internet is usually possible.
How fast is internet in Budapest?
With fiber, internet in Budapest ranges from 300 Mbps up to 8 Gbps, depending on your address and plan. That is enough for working from home, 4K streaming and gaming with the whole household online. 5G home internet offers up to 400 Mbps with unlimited data.
I rent my apartment. Can I still get internet?
Yes. The contract is in your name, and many tenants in Budapest arrange their own internet. If the technician needs access to a shared area of the building, such as the basement or stairwell, it helps to let your landlord or building manager know in advance.
Do I need a Hungarian address card or ID?
No. Internet in Budapest is arranged without a Hungarian ID card, address card or Hungarian phone number. You order online in your own language.
How quickly can I get connected in Budapest?
Most customers in Budapest are online within 2–3 working days. We contact you within 1–2 business days to schedule the installation; with 5G, your pre-configured router is sent to your address. Read more about the installation process.
Which contract is best if I only stay for a while?
If you only stay for a while, a 1-year plan or a plan without commitment gives you the most flexibility. Staying longer? A 2-year plan includes free installation. See all plans and prices.
